Monochromatic

Winter weather in the south is weird. One day it’s snowing, and the next it’s 64 degrees and sunny. It's kind of hard to dress appropriately for the month of December, but think I’ve found a solution.Wear all black!Fur coat // Paige jeans // Black boatneck top // Booties (similar) // Photography: Blakely for AHP Photo Video // Location: Grant ParkBlack is elegant and chic; black is slimming; black looks good on all skin tones; black looks good with all hair colors; black looks just as good on men as it does on women. Wearing black is my favorite.Sporting a monochromatic look can seem one-dimensional and boring, but there are several ways to help your outfit stand out.

  • Vary the fabrics and textures. Nothing looks frumpier than an all-black outfit that is all cotton.
  • On the fabric note, make sure the fabric selection is season appropriate. A black wool dress will look fabulous in the fall, but out-of-place during the summer. Light, breathable fabrics (like silk and linen) make it easier to pull off the all-black look during warmer months.
  • When putting together a black-on-black ensemble, fit becomes even more important. Take advantage of the fact that black is slimming and have the clothes be more fitted and flattering, rather than shapeless and drab.
  • Add interest with accessories and makeup. Bold, colorful jewelry becomes the statement piece of your outfit. For me, a bold red lip is my go-to for an all-black look.

Right now, I am obsessing over this stunning black NO. 21 faux fur coat from Hampden. I’ll admit, it’s a bit of a splurge, BUT it’s 40% off right now AND you can grab it in-person from Hampden’s pop up shop at the Shops of Buckhead. Treat yo’self.
