The art of the pivot.

Bay Area Photographer

I did it. I pivoted.

I made lemonade out of lemons.

I didn’t think I could. But I did.

After months of job-hunting during a global pandemic, I decided to put all of my eggs in one basket.

I started my own business.

No, not like “Hey, girl! Want to become your own boss?” type of “business” (LOL).

An actual business.

I’m the proud founder and owner of EP Media.

I’m a one-woman show who photographs everyone from influencers to newborns and creates brand identities for businesses across the Bay Area.

Did I ever think I’d be an entrepreneur? Absolutely not. I loved the security of my desk jobs, my 401K matching, and my healthcare benefits.

But once those things are taken away from you, you start to realize what’s important. And to me, doing something I love (instead of staring at Excel all day) was important.

 So, I decided to pivot.

Turns out that I’m much happier when my creativity isn’t stifled, or my ideas aren’t overshadowed or put up for unnecessary debate. Don’t get me wrong, I love working as a team, but calling the shots for the first time in my life has been a nice change of pace.

So, what I’m trying to say is, don’t be afraid to pivot. Don’t be afraid to fail. Don’t be afraid to turn a hobby into a career. Is it scary? Hell yes, it is. Is it impossible? No. You will come out on the other side stronger, and more confident than before. Trust me.

And to quote one of the greatest TV characters of all time:

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. – Wayne Gretzky”
